I would describe myself as every parent’s nightmare; I was the ‘why’ child. I constantly needed to know answers and I needed to know them right away. If the answer didn’t satisfy my question, I’d ask again but with a different spin.
If you fast forward to my 20′s, not much has changed, except my title from Why Child to The Google Master. My thirst for knowledge will always be there and approaching projects from a different perspective is the only way I know how.
I like different. I like people that go against the grain. That ask why. It’s those people that make change and get answers to questions that others are afraid to ask.
Naturally, with my creative mindset, I decided to embark on a career in advertising and marketing. I will never forget when I had my first taste of guerrilla marketing my freshman year of college. While sitting on the corner of Jackson and Clark, I watched as the light turned from green to red, to green to red, and back again, only seeing one car turn around that corner each time. I sat there in a trance, contemplating why Chicago hadn’t followed Vegas’ footsteps in making all the crosswalks above the street, until my deep thinking was disrupted by a knock on my window.
It was an astronaut.
Yes, an astronaut. I slowly rolled down my window and was handed an item….Orbit gum. 12 years later, I still remember that day, the product, the packaging, the woman in the suit. Maybe it’s my “advertising” mind that noticed the little details but nonetheless, I knew I was going to school for something that really satisfied my need for thinking differently. How could we introduce this product in a way that consumers would remember? What hasn’t been done before? Etc. Etc.
Since then I’ve graduated with a BA from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a concentration in Marketing. After becoming frustrated that I, myself, couldn’t design an ad campaign on a computer; I enrolled in the graphic design associates program at IADT,completing that degree two years later. I currently work as a freelance graphic artist on various projects throughout the Chicagoland area.
I would say my design aesthetic is very clean, simple; I especially love copy and typography. Some of my commissioned work reflects the style of the client but I myself enjoy brands such as: Apple, Martha Stewart, J.Crew, Kate Spade and Marc Jacbos. I’m the kind of person that sees a logo and plays the ‘guess that typeface’ game. I think I’m also the one person in America that has seen ‘The Greatest Movie Ever Sold’ more than once.
Other interests include: Dance, Stand-up comedy, Photography, TED Talks, Fashion and Traveling.
